Scaling Precision: How Advanced Coatings Drove Export Growth
Founded in 2009, Optonas began as a strategic coating production facility serving the domestic market. Today, the company has grown into a globally recognized precision optics manufacturer, specializing in advanced thin‑film coatings and custom optical solutions for the most demanding applications. With extensive experience in laser and defense optics, and the largest coated‑optics production capacity in East and North Europe, Optonas delivers high‑performance coated optics up to 600 mm in diameter, covering a wide spectral range from 193 nm to 20,000 nm.
Our in‑house environmental and durability testing, conducted in accordance with MIL and ISO standards, ensures exceptional product reliability. A versatile and technologically diverse coating equipment base allows us to select the optimal coating process for each application. From R&D prototypes to large‑scale production, Optonas is recognized for outstanding durability, consistent performance, and industry‑leading laser‑induced damage threshold (LIDT) values.
Meeting the durability requirements while maintaining demanding spectral performance in harsh environments required more than compliance and testing equipment – it required us to master both – optical coatings and durability requirements.
Optonas provided a high‑durability infrared optical coating solution developed through an extensive practice of hands‑on MIL‑standard durability testing and continuous infrared coating optimization. By applying advanced thin‑film coating technologies and comprehensive in‑house testing capabilities, we refined and validated coating designs that deliver exceptional infrared optical performance while withstanding severe and moderate abrasion. The coatings demonstrate strong adhesion and long‑term stability under extreme thermal, mechanical, and environmental stresses.
Over a development period of approximately one year, the project scope encompassed continuous coating design adjustments, spectral performance optimization, and rigorous qualification testing aimed at identifying the optimal balance between demanding spectral requirements and durability constraints. The resulting solution not only met established market and military standards but also raised the performance benchmark in this field, delivering optical surfaces engineered for maximum durability and reliable operation in the most demanding applications.
Defence applications already account for over 50% of our export revenue, even though we started our export activities just three years ago.
